As you read this, I’m off to Haiti. No, I’m not blogging from the airport, I wrote this post in advance. I have to tell you, I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity to travel to a country that’s in desperate need of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now, let me first tell you, this isn’t a gospel mission to bring Bibles or to help translate Bibles into other languages or any of those other tasks that you might think of when I mention missions work. No, this time around we come bearing…shoes. Yes, we’re bringing in a bunch of suitcases full of shoes to a country that so desperately needs just about everything you can think of. The earthquake of 2010 has left Haiti in a state that’s hard to recover from when you don’t have a very stable economy to being with. For these people shoes can mean hope. And in that, we are showing them the love of Jesus.
Apart from Jesus Christ, there is no hope for tomorrow. No matter how well fed we are, how many pairs of shoes we have in our closet, and how much money we have in our bank, if we don’t have Jesus we don’t have hope. He is the source of all hope.
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
I’d like to ask you to pray for the team from Christ Fellowship of Tampa while we’re on this mission to bring hope. Would you do that? Here are a few prayer points to guide you:
- Safe travel, ease going through customs
- Protection from malaria and other diseases
- That we would have servants’ hearts as we minister to the Haitians
- That God would reveal His nature to us through the Haitian people
- That we would reveal Jesus to the Haitian people through our works of love
- That God would receive all of the glory, honor, and praise
Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and support. I look forward to posting about our trip to Haiti upon our return to Tampa.
