Money can’t buy you security

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

We’ve all heard the expression that money can’t buy happiness. The Beatles also informed us that money can’t buy you love, but what about the notion that money can’t buy security? I don’t think most of us even look at money as a means to achieve happiness. I think the majority of us are just trying to reach financial security. The problem is money fails to provide that too. God says to trust in Him for all things. Sometimes His solution to a problem of ours might come in the form of money. Other times it’s something else we really need and only God knows how to fulfill that need.

To truly have peace of mind in this world, we can’t rely on putting our hope in things that rust and fade and wither away. Our trust has to be in the unchanging God of all things. Our hope for the future has to be based on His past promise-keeping and provision. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Be content with what you have. Ask the Lord for what you need, but live a content life that doesn’t chase money. The content life is the one that has real joy. The love of money is only going to lead to disappointment and discontent.
