A Pastoral Letter is a good reminder that some issues we face today were issues long ago as well. With a recent increase in media coverage of piracy on the seas, we may be more aware than ever that we are more connected with the past than we may think. The works of Cotton Mather included within this book give the modern reader a peek into how those who faced piracy and tyranny so long ago dealt with their fears and got through those turbulent times. Mathers words ring true today as well. I love how Vicki Claudio and her colleagues have included materials like maps to make the experience all the more real. This is a good book and not a particularly hard read. It’s well worth it.
